What to plant in January or February

In the UK, January and February are typically quite cold months, so it's important to help your kids choose cold-hardy plants that can withstand winter conditions. We at Gardening For Kids have put together this collection to narrow down your search. Crops like tomatoes and peppers have a long growing season so planting early to get a head start is recommended, but do keep them in a frost free place.  Sweet peas sown now will give earlier flowers in the summer.  

Remember to check local weather conditions and frost dates, as planting times may vary depending on exactly where you are within the UK. Ensure that the children always provide protection for newly planted items to guard against harsh winter conditions.
